HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
System LED: fast blink red, Diag LED's: off-red-red-off
I've never seen this error code before. The tech manual shows "System Fault - Machine Check - The system resets due to a problem. If you cannot determine a reason for the reset, contact your HP Support Engineer." The power supply is green. All the fans are running. No video appears on the monitor. Cycling the power, including unplugging the AC, results in the same code when it is powered back on. Has anyone seen this before? Any advise is appreciated. Thank you, Chris

Re: HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
Hi Chris,
This sounds like a HW issue and you may want to have a look at On-board diagnostic LEDs on back of the cabinet to get more details:
https://parisc.wiki.kernel.org/images-parisc/1/18/HP_C8000_Manual.pdf page 17
Interpretation of different LED pattern is mentioned at page 72 onwards.

Re: HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
The error message based on the codes was included in my original post. The system LED is fast blinking red and the diagnostic LED code is off-red-red-off.

Re: HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
Hi Chris,
My bad. I did not read your post completely.
I did not find any other hit for this LED combination.
This would require help from an HPE customer engineer to find the faulty part and replace. It may be DIMM or system board issue.
If you have support for this workstation, you may contact HPE and log a case.
Regards
Manish

Re: HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
The error code seems pretty ambiguous. For all intensive purposes, I am the HPE Customer Engineer for this site. I've worked on HP 3000 and 9000 systems going back many years but have not see this code before. I was not aware HP provides support for the C8000's since they went EOL/EOS.

Re: HP 9000-C8000 Diagnostic LED Codes
Yes. HP C8000 is EOS but some customer may still have support from HPE for these. Coming back to the issue, there is no direct indication about the hardware fault from the LED combination. It may be a system board issue or DIMM issue which can be verified only after replacing it with a working part.
Thanks
Manish
